What is a Role Play Game?
A role-playing game is a game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting, or through a process of structured decision-making regarding character development. Actions taken within many games succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. (Thanks Wikipedia!)
There are many types of RPG’s called systems. For this event, we will be running:
Dungeons & Dragons (commonly abbreviated as D&D) is a fantasy style RPG originally. It was derived from miniature wargames, and is commonly recognized as the beginning of modern RPG’s and the role-playing game industry. Lord of the Rings, Willow and Conan are examples of fantasy setting movies.
Pathfinder (PF, or the new edition PF2) is a spin off, of Wizard’s of the Coast’s 3rd edition D&D. Sometimes even referred to as 3.75, and is mostly thought to improve upon 3.5 in every way. The brand new Pathfinder second edition is a more serious departure from D&D 3rd and 5th editions, with revamped actions per turn, and noticeably different character generation – but it’s also a bit more rules heavy.
What is a One Shot?
RPG’s are often played as campaigns over many sessions and fun get togethers. A One Shot is just one game, run over a few hours, and a great way to experience the fun of roleplay without making a regular commitment.
What will happen on the night?
The game will gather from 6:00pm where adventurers can settle in at the tavern with some food and drink (included in the ticket price), meet their fellow adventurers and start from 6:30pm! The adventure is expected to wrap up by 10pm.
Bring along your sense of adventure, and a willingness to make new friends! All other materials will be provided by The Copper Dragon, but if you have a lucky set of dice (polyhedral) you like to use for role play, then bring them along too!
